How does everyone feel about our Community ID?

So how has everyone taken to our new ID, Band of Others? Do you miss Fragtard at all or has it been simply a move in name only, not terribly noticeable?

Do you have any thoughts about us now vs then as Fragtard?

Please share your insight.

Re: How has does everyone feel about our Community ID?

I think it was a change in name only.

Other than the change in growth, I don't think anything has changed.

And I don't think the name change contributed to the growth in the slightest, think it just rallied a lot of us to actually start doing something to boost numbers around here.

It has boosted our rankings on the internet but this is a slow process that we'll see grow over time. One of the deciding factors to how well you rank is how often new and unique content is posted and aside from the iRacing Forum, it doesn't happen around here near often enough.

That's not a complaint, it's a simple fact.

As it stands, the SEO Testing on our iRacing Forum has boosted us up to between Page 3 and Page 4 in Google SERPS.

The Internet portion takes time. We have absolutely no trust rank with Google so we have to work hard to get there.

I do agree though that it rallied us together because we've not been near as stagnant since that period.

I don't miss Fragtard simply because it isn't gone imho.

It really shouldn't matter what we're named, behind that name is still that group of people with the same interests.

However from a public point of view, Band of Others sounds more attractive than Fragtard... just because the latter contains tard and people mostly have their negative feeling triggered by that.

And yes there have been some drastic improvements around here ever since the switcharoo commenced.

Both on the web front and the community part activity has seen quite the influx.

I'd say job well done so far by all of you, and definitly keep the line rising!

Pretty much what Quick said, that's all I have time to type as I'm eating my crumpets and drinking tea. Doesn't matter what we're called we're still the same bunch of people from all around the world sharing a passion of gaming and it's great to meet and get to know the new members.

Thanks for providing us with a place to hang our online hat Duke.

Not to start that argument again, but I don't think that even quarter of a percent of growth in gaming communities comes from SEO.

The vast, vast, vast majority of growth comes from active advertising in game and on official game/steam forum, an active presence in the game itself actively "inviting" others to join us on voice comms and play together, and activity on game servers; by which I mean a community game server that is high pop and attracts players. I believe we've also both personally been very successful through recruiting on Twitch, I've personally lured in 30~ active members from twitch alone in the past few weeks.

[And holy fuck, I got 42 follows in one night Saturday night, fucking Christ that was insane.]

I am almost 30 years old, I've been active on the internet since the age of 5, and I have quite literally never searched other people out to play a game with based off of a google or internet search.

But alas, I don't want to start that argument again. We've both already agreed we don't see eye to eye on the importance of growth based on how we rank on google SOE. I'm just publicly stating my opinion. :)

I genuinely think the stress and reward of finally getting a name/brand we can all agree with and rally around has given enough of us a kick in the ass to really get things going around here. I am truly proud of what we've all accomplished, and I look forward towards the future expecting to improve and build on the growth, and ensure we've learned from past mistakes and don't allow history to repeat itself.

Keith, I know you have your ideas on what grows a Community but the argument was never that it would be solely responsible for growing our Community. Why on Earth can you not get that simple point into your head is beyond me?

It is about capturing Membership from every source possible. We have a Forum with more and more unique content every single day. It only makes sense to try and capture Membership from this source.

It's such a painfully easy concept to grasp.

As for Twitch I'm already aware of it's potential as you can tell by the sites header, this is where the bulk of our iRacing Community comes from.

Oh, and it's not SOE oh wise Internet Guru

I agree SEO is far from the greatest way to find a gaming community but some people do it. It's a sort of why the hell not? Why not have your community be listed on the first page when you search for a iRacing or Elite or Europa community?

Growth is growth. Much better than regress. We obviously need to be active in other mediums, but it's good!

I agree with Daunt. More than once I've tried to find a clan or community website and given up because it's buried in unrelated Google results.

I'm not saying we should not maximize every source possible, all I've argued is that any semblance of growth coming from internet searches is going to be extremely small, and that I feel that the large amount of focus and effort you put into it could be spent in more "profitable" ventures. That's all I've been trying to say.

Thank you, Daunt. You were able to articulate what I've been trying to say all along.

Well, what most people are saying here, it's about the people much more then the name, and can only agree the whole change was functional in activating the community. No complaints here :)

On that part, stay tuned. I've got a pretty unique and big announcement to make in about 2 weeks of time ;-)

p.s.: DOA, don't say anything yet, please!

Your Pregnant! :dance2:

On topic though, I like it, I will like it even more when we find that next game to bring us back into the fold. I agree completely with tm.
