English is a liquid language and, as it has done for a thousand years, it's lexicon and the definitions of said words continues to flow and ebb. In a gaming community the word "tard" has a very specific meaning that I would think is very evident to any gamer. It really has no correlation to a person with learning or physical disabilities.
I think if we were called "bendersgaming" or "lesbofuntime" I could see why people would get offended. But tard is not in the same category as far I am concerned. I have to be PC at work and, yes to a point I understand that as we are generally nice people, and not asshats, some level of decorum should extend into our free time. I really didn't get any mental red flags when I heard the name for the first time.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the name changed, although I like it; it's the people that I care about. However, anyone that won't join us because of the name is a bit of a knobber to begin with. I like to distance myself from those kinds of people as much as possible....
Except Eng .... kind of stuck there
