Nurburgring is coming to iRacing!!

Exciting times ahead all! iRacing announced that they are adding the fabled Nurburgring!

Today’s announcement at the iRacing Nürburgring 1000 means the more than 52,000 iRacers worldwide will be able to race on digital versions of the 20.8 km (12.9 mile) Nordschleife, the 5.15 km (3.2 mile) Grand Prix Stecke and a combination track linking the two circuits. The tracks are scheduled to be released to iRacers in 2015. In celebration of its partnership with the Nürburgring, iRacing is offering a free, three month subscription to new members who visit www.iracing.com/Nürburgring1000.

I guess this is part of the reason why they sponsored the Nurburgring 1000.

Man they are clearly not content to just sit on top in the sim racing world. Since I've joined a few months ago they've added and announced tons of content. Really amazing work they do.

I can't wait for access to the blog to write about this sort of thing!

That is awesome news! I can't believe they are actually going to make the whole track, including both the Nordschleife and the GP portion.

I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for such an expansive track. I actually live relatively in range of the actual track and going there to run a few laps on the real thing is on my wishlist. When it is in iRacing it's great to be able to practice the laser scanned version.

So, in 2015, we'll have a big event, replicating the entire 24 hour of the Nürburgring with driver swaps? Would be nice if they let us have flashing head lights by then too.

Driver swaps for sure! That will be amazing.

I heard the track is technically a toll road so you can go and run laps in any car you want when they're not running events. Is this true?

Yep, that's fully true. On many days they have "Touristenfahrten" (tourist drives) in which you can show up in any car or bike, pay € 25.00 and go for a lap in the middle of everyone else that decided to come to the Nordschleife.

If you can't or don't want to drive your own car they even have rental cars, such as a Suzuki Swift Sport for you to drive in. You don't need to be in a fast car to feel the challenge of the green hell:

Wow, that was indeed very close.

I don't think they could have done a lot of things different though. By the time they could see around the corner the other cars were braking in the middle of the track and the Subarus were going too fast to stop in time.

Don't you hate how your knees and legs start trembling from adrenalin after something like that to such extend that you can barely control the pedals anymore? Hate when that happens.

I read this. Lots of great things up and coming! I can't wait for what DX11 will allow, like a dynamic race surface, better damage model, pit crews... great stuff! Not mention day/night transitions... though that wasn't in there I think... which makes me believe it is further off than I dare hope... Something I would like more than all of those changes.

I think I might have to buy a new graphics card at least, to keep up with those updates :|.

They better put flashing headlights somewhere in-between those features, that's the number one thing I've been waiting for since I started iRacing.

A dynamic road surface would also add a ton of realism. However, that could also mean that they will introduce a probability factor for punctured tires. There is no point in having marbles without them either ruining the handling or shortening the tires' lifetime. Of course a random tire popping would be realistic but in a competitive simulation I would rather see a system that gradually and predictably degrades tires whenever you drive through the marbles until at some point they burst.

I would have to agree. Random tire popping would be a no go. Though I think a middle ground could be made. I'd like to see popping from running over large debris, especially sheet metal. We already have tires that can pop for various reasons, usually something to do with damage. I don't think tire rubbing is one of the reasons and I'd like to see that (Say if damage caused it to rub against the well or whatever. I also would not mind seeing debris (being out of the race line and through tire wear) shorten tire life a bit but not drastically.

A shame.... though I didn't expect it to be done yet. Everyone seems very hopefuly for dynamic track surfaces being released this upcoming build... it did look pretty far along in their video.

I think they should release dynamic track at least before Nurb. Even better if day/night comes along before the big endurance races over there.

I wonder how many series will opt into using the Nordschleife... Would be like 2-3 laps in the skippy for a full race.

I agree Dino. Much more excited for dynamic track surfaces... I think Nordscheife is too much for all but the longest races. I will need a co-driver like in Dirt Rally.
