My Gaming PC is down

Well it appears as if my Video Card issues have hit climax as I can no longer even load Windows properly.

I've contacted MSI Tech. Support with an RMA request and have to wait for them to do whatever they need to do to help me through this issue.

Until they respond with a clear plan of action, I have to consider my main PC offline. After that's put to bed, I'll simply re-install my N460GTX and start gaming again with you fine ppl.

That sucks man. Have you heard anything from them yet?

Just push that old card back in!

I have to say that MSI Tech. Support is by far one of the worst I've experienced so far and has helped only push me toward camp EVGA. I have a buddy who's an EVGA fanboi but I personally preferred the Twin Frozr design of the MSI cards.

I'm going to try return/exchange at the place I purchased the card and see if that works. If not, I'll simply re-install the N460GTX.

Either way, I should be up and running again by Jan 7.

BTW mondo, I think we've come a long way as a tank squad. I think if the 3 of us are ingame on a tank map, we can come out as top squad at least 50% of the time.

Sounds like a pain in the ass Duke.

Sometimes GFX cards seem to the luck of the draw. I bought as many duff ones which have been RMA'd immediately as I have ones which worked perfectly.

The only company I've never had problems with though is Gigabyte. I have my first EVGA GFX card right now so will see how that goes.

You know my friend, I accept that hardware is going to fail and pretty much know that going in. I've been lucky and have never had to RMA anything because Logitech Tech Support was absolutely beyond awesome!

What irritates me is that some of these expansion cards cost a small fortune so you'd expect some value in that purchase. For me, good Customer Support should be part of the package but sadly, with some vendors anyway, it doesn't seem all that important.

So I called the store where I purchased the video card and they were pretty awesome about the whole thing. I purchased it through NCIX and I've read that they've got top notch RMA Support, today I learned that was true.

The store I purchased it from is out of stock but it's perfectly acceptable to go to any of their stores for an exchange. They even told me which stores had stock and how much of it.

So it looks as if I'll be returning the card tomorrow and taking another shot at the N570GTX (you won a reprieve MSI, from one of your vendors).

Wappy, would you rub my tummy?
It looks like that's not necessary anymore since you're getting your card exchanged!

Good to hear you're having more luck with the store you bought it at. RMA's through the manufacturer are not the fastest way of solving your problem quickly. Quite funny how their reply was as expected, like we talked about... 'is your power cord plugged in?' .. 'have you turned on your monitor?'.

I can understand they have to deal with stupid people every day, but damn.. your mail to them clearly shows you have some more than common knowledge of computers. Why reply with a stupid answer not useful to anyone? Either this person hates his job, doesn't care... or both.

I've had good experiences with MSI. Been using their motherboards for quite a while now without any problems, so no experience with their support.

I could still use the Tummy rub lol :)

Just an FYI, I won't be around until this Saturday as I'm spending the night (Friday) out at my brothers. My mom is leaving back for Nelson on Monday so I may as well see her one final time before she heads out.

Did you get your PC sorted out yet?

I wonder how bad BF3 would chug on the rig I built for BF2? :p It is so far under BF3 minimum spec that it is not even funny. Ok, it is a little bit funny.

It's too early to tell but I think that everything is ok now. I picked up my new card this afternoon, plugged it in and the computer booted up without incident.

Keep in mind that I've made absolutely no changes to my computer other than the installing the replacement card, drivers are exactly the same.

Once I mentioned at the store how the card was booting even during POST they just started on the exchange process, absolutely awesome support!

I'll probably try some BF and a bit of Skyrim hopefully tonight just to make sure everything is ok. I'll also probably reboot about 5 or 6 times as well.
