So I made it as far as after Lamar drives you to the tutroial race, but after stepping into the mission circle nothing basically happened for 30 minutes. A player or two seemed to pop in, then back to nothing, while the various info banners scroll through. Gave up after 30 minutes to try again, now online just keeps loading endlessly....

I've created a character 4 times already, but have yet to even start a tutorial mission...

Don't wait for 30 minutes, if it's working you should be racing within the minute. Within that timeframe you should get a dropdown menu where you can pick a car for the race, if that doesn't happen, theres no use in waiting for it to happen.Dashboard right away again to retry then.

If you watch this video from the 7:10 min mark you can see what you should be seeing when it works ok. Any connecting, waiting for players and launching should be a matter of seconds, not minutes. If it takes minutes it's not working and you can retry then.

Once we all got past this part we generally had few problems with connections. But this issue specifically is one of the things to be fixed in the update, so it may be worth waiting until that drops on Live to save any more frustration JK

Looks like I finally made it through the tutorial.

The title updates are now live for both consoles.

Fixes include:


Fix to address the issue where players were stuck launching a session before the Mall or Nothingrace in the online tutorial.
Fix to address an issue where bank & cash were deleted incorrectly in some cases.
Fix to address incorrect amounts of cash being dropped when the player dies in Missions and Last Team Standing.
Fixes an issue where the Character Switch Wheel would disappear after a failed load.
Fixes an issue where attempting to enter GTA Online via the Character Switch Wheel caused a black screen.
Fixes an issue where temporary characters were overwriting main characters.
Fixes an issue where players were losing apartments and the money they spent on them.
Fixes an issue that caused Story Mode missions to be missed in some instances.
Removes the autosave that occurred when transitioning into GTA Online from within GTAV Story Mode to prevent the chance of Story Mode saves becoming corrupted.
Several tweaks to GTA Online including improving overall stability.




Social club has also been updated, so you'll see a gta online tab now with your online stats. The crew pages have also been updated to include the gta online info. You can also find a GTA Online Guide there.

Next to that, the official GTA Online page has also been updated, with lots of info about online.

I wanted to respond to Shilka about GTA Online in the Xbox Live names thread, but want to keep that one clean and just about names.

I have had almost no problems in the last day or two. Online was TERRIBLE the first day, I was having the same problem as everyone else, not being able to get into the tutorial Race mission. Now it's pretty smooth, and rarely it will take longer than usual to load Freemode.

The one thing I have had problems with is inviting people into a match. I'll start a Mission or Deathmatch and either nobody gets invited using the Auto Invite And Play or they all are invited, but nothing happens after that. I let it sit last night for at least 5 minutes and nobody got into my Hosted game.

Hmmm weird, haven't had any problems with that. Even if you set it to friends or crew invitations, it will invite just those for the first 30 seconds, and after that it will open up to everyone anyway. That said, it was a saturday evening, and assuming that is the busiest night of the week I guess the matchmaking servers might have been overloaded a bit.

Anyway, seeing how much things have improved the past couple of days, and rockstar even managing to push through titles updates within two days, I'm pretty confident that rockstar is doing everything in its power to get online straightened out and fully functional as is physically possible for them (unlike for example ubisofts farcry3 where connection issues are still unfixed, and never will be either)

And here's Little P in his musclecar. He's fast. He's tough. He's handsome. And he smells of garlic and urine.

There's some neat murals hidden away in alleys.

The countryside looks just as cool at night as the city does.

After hard work comes leisure. I like taking short RV trips between jobs (+ it's a challenge to get them over those steep dirt roads)

Patch 1.03 is rolling out today, PS3 already has it, xbox is expected today.

No patch notes yet, but according to players it has fixed some exploits that led to XP and money farming by doing missions repeatedly. According to rockstar the missing character/stuff bugs are still being worked upon.

Given some of the recent technical issues during these first days of GTA Online, and now that things are starting to look much smoother (touch wood!), we are planning to provide a special stimulus package for all who have played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month. We will be dropping a cool half a million GTA$ in the GTA Online bank accounts of all players this month, starting as early as next week.

‘Don’t Spend It All in One Place!’

In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced, we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000. We will announce specific dates as soon as possible, but are currently hoping to be able to make the first deposit by the end of next week (after we’ve confirmed that issues causing game progress loss have been fixed) with the second installment to happen by the end of the month. For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet.

Below are a few more details on how it will work. Stay tuned for tips on how to make the most of GTA$ cash, info on ways and places to earn more cash fast, as well as updates on all the new GTA Online content additions we’re working on for this fall and beyond.

• You must play or have played Grand Theft Auto Online at any time during the month of October 2013 in order to qualify for the GTA$500,000 deposit in your in-game bank account.
• Players will first have to install a forthcoming GTAV title update which we expect to happen next week. That title update (1.04) is expected to fix the remaining instances of issues that have caused vehicle purchase loss and will also enable the functionality through which we’ll be providing this GTA$ stimulus cash to players.
• We will announce at the Rockstar Newswire when each deposit is made.
• Each of the two GTA$250,000 deposits will be made by Rockstar and should automatically appear in the in-game GTA Online bank accounts of eligible players. I finally saved up enough money for a high end appartment:

After buying it I had only $500 left, so I thought it might be a good time to go bounty hunting. After getting myself killed a couple of times I managed to change the odds by doing plane kamikaze attacks, which worked wonders.

Best one was where I took out a guy with 3 of his friend in one car by taking them out with a transport plane. No pics, they were kind of upset, lol, so had to run from the scene.
