B2O Meetup - Belle Isle Grand Prix

I don't expect to make a huge splash but I'm putting this out there to make the first ever Band of Others meetup. The Belle Isle Grand Prix being somewhat close to a number of members, I thought I'd see who else is interested in attending and meeting up.

Saturday June 4th

I will be there all day - starting at 7:30 when gates open. So for anyone in the area that wants to meet up - let me know.

Tickets are $40 general admission for grandstands 3, 4, and 5. Planning for grandstand 5 most likely.

Saturday gates open @ 7:30 am and I plan to be there bright and early - since grandstands are GA.

Schedule of big events for the day:
8-8:30am - IMSA Sportscar warmup (P, PC & GTD)
9-10am - Race (Trans am race)
10-10:30am - Indycar practice
11-11:30am - Stadium Truck Race
12:30-2:30pm - IMSA Main Race (main sports car race)
3:30-6pm - Indycar Race I (First of 2 main Indycar races)

Features 3 Audis, a Ferrari, 4 Lambos, 2 new BMWs. Sadly no Mercs.

Sunday is the first test day for Le Mans so I believe the prototype category is quite a bit smaller than I expected.

What a great time.

Unfortunately, Mingay, driving the Stadium Trucks, had a nasty crash right in front of our grandstands, going roof first into the barrier after taking a curb. He was taken to the hospital where I last heard he was in critical condition. It was an insane accident and I've been looking for footage but no luck. Hopefully he'll be alright. Took place on L2 and it pretty much canceled the entire stadium truck race.

IMSA was messy, lots of cautions. Still great though - awesome to see, and hear, the cars.

Holy crap only in 'muuuricaaaa would they put ramps on a track, and run trucks with suspension made out of jelly and think it's a good idea!

Hope he's okay though. Looked a hard hit on the roof was it? Any news yet?

Holy shit- this is the update:

Mingay update
Australian stunt driver Matt Mingay reportedly lost his jaw and lower teeth in Saturday’s Stadium SUPER Truck Series race at Belle Isle Park.

Fellow Australian driver Paul Morris told the Detroit Free Press that Mingay lost “a fair (bit)” of his lower face when the car rolled on its right side and hit the barrier. Mingay’s family confirmed facial surgery.

“But he has no permanent injuries,” Morris told the newspaper. “His brain’s intact, his spine’s intact.

“So, he’s got a long road ahead. He’s not going to win a beauty contest in the next year or two. So hopefully we’ll get him out of here in the next couple of weeks, get him stabilized, get him back to Australia, get his head rebuilt and he’ll be brand new.”

Also, they raced earlier this year in Australia at Adelaide. So suck it. Not just your colonists but your prison scum too.

Bloody hell. At least he's alive. Good luck to him and a speedy recovery.

Don't worry Daunt I'm just jealous that you get to have all the fun over that side of the pond. The health and safety executive would never allow such fun over here. As soon as you went anywhere near one of our tracks with a ramp they'd have you arrested and thrown in the tower of London to be beheaded at a later date.

If only us humans could withstand impacts over 4mph...
It didn't look all that fast tho, kinda freaky if you ask me.
Certainly hope he gets better after this terrible accident.

The way that truck in the background is coming round the corner on three wheels while the trucks in the foreground are flying as some creature is having a panic attack on the track in front of them is just brilliant.

Yep. If you click through the pictures (on the right, there's an arrow) you'll see it scurry for it's poor furry life.

Sharp eyes there Shilka! At first sight i thought it was an animal, but when looking at it i figured it was a piece of rubber from a tire....
Squirrel had the best seat in the house!
