Death of yet another ASUS mobo

Looks like I may be stuck gaming on console for the next little while...

ASUS mobo in my gaming PC died and I ordered a new one on the weekend but looking last night I discovered that the mobo has a 3 year warranty. So tonight I'll start the RMA process and go from there. Looks like Ill be playing lots of Destiny and Rocket League on my ps4 until shits fixed

Also a note, this is the 3rd of 4 asus mobos I've had die shortly after the one year mark. This is the first board that has still been covered by warranty. Safe to say I am going to be going MSI or Gigabyte from now on I think.

What a mess... was it a higher end model?

I guess better than a GPU dying but frustrating nonetheless.

Yea its the ROG Maximus VI Formula. Unfortunately one of my GPU's might also be dead. I discovered the little rubber heatsink pads on em were melting or something and seeping some kind of grease out covering much of the PCB.

Wow that's bizarre. I've been using Asus Mobo's for over a decade now and over that time only ever had one bios related issue.

I switched from Gigabyte as back when I used them they only offered a 12 month warranty which did me no good when my Mobo died.

Yep that has been the face I made pretty much all weekend. Hopefully ASUS RMA doesn't take months of turnaround.

Yea I started using ASUS years ago when I was a tech at a shop and we were swapping gigabyte motherboards daily due to bad capacitors (something I am told has been rectified since) but I have also had 2 asus mobos die due to bad capacitors as well. Nothing that immediately killed the pc but it sure dragged down performance. My last board is still going strong with a 2700k out in my livingroom as an HTPC so I was kinda hoping that going for a high end board again would get me the same results. I can't even blame the powersupply on this one either because I have been running a 1200w platnum rated PSU so it's not like it had any difficulty supplying stable power to components.

I've had this Asus motherboard for a couple of years now and no problems. Sorry to hear of your troubles ID. What on earth has been going on with your GPU? Have you been overclocking the bejeezus out of it?

At least you can still play Rocket League and lets face it that's all that matters really...

No everything has been running stock clock speeds. I think it's just been hotter due to the lack of space between cards when running in SLI. its odd though because the case does have really good airflow and the fans never spun up to max. (except for the times I manually cranked them to see how loud they really were) Everything I've googled for everyone seems to be blaming grease leaking out of fan bearings but I can't see it being that because it's all local around the ram chips and the area around the fan is completely dry.

I plan on getting a lot of rocket leaguing in and I might even see if it will run on the old pc in the living room being that it at least still has a 560ti in it.

It only took a friggen week but I got my motherboard in the mail. Hopefully ASUS RMA has quick turnaround.

Pc is back up and running as of last night. ASUS turned the RMA around way quicker than I had anticipated. They had a new board in the mail 2 days after they received it, and I think I may have gotten a brand new board, not a refurbished one. That or they do a great job at refurbishing their hardware.

I know you've had trouble with Asus but they are awesome! Honestly the only thing I don't like about their Mobo's is the layout and wish it was a bit better organized like Gigabyte boards are.

Aside from that Asus and Logitech have the distinction of being the only Hardware Manufacturers to not make me jump through hoops to prove a faulty product. Both were quick to offer terrific service and RMA info after only a few simple tests.

In my experience both care quite a lot about positive User Experience and take great strides to ensure the Customer is taken care of.

I've been using Asus for 10 years and have never had a issue with either the Motherboards or videocards. As a matter of fact, the one I'm running now is 6 years old and still going strong. Guess you've had a lottery like run of bad luck with them - too bad because they're one of the better manufacturer's out there.

Yea I think it may have been bad luck and maybe a bad run. I keep buying asus boards because they're always feature rich and perform the best in benchmarks. There was a time when I was working in some local pc shops that asus (and gigabyte) definitely had some issue because I was RMAing several mobos a week. However most of those were standard mid range motherboards not exactly built with gaming in mind. Either way hopefully this guy lasts until it's time to get a new PC.
