Pre-ordering a “supporter edition” will soon give immediate access to Arma 3 on Steam, or at least to an alpha test of a limited build of the game that will run until the full beta test some time in the second quarter of the year.
EDIT: http://www.bistudio.com/english/home/news/projects/358-plans-for-arma-3-in-2013

To participate in the Alpha, people can purchase the Arma 3 Alpha (24.99 EUR/19.99 GBP/32.99 USD) or Arma 3 Digital Deluxe Edition (39.99 EUR/34.99 GBP/49.99 USD) on Steam. Extras in the Digital Deluxe Edition include a digital soundtrack*, digital maps*, digital tactical guide*, and a Steam Gift of Arma: Cold War Assault (formerly known as Operation Flashpoint™: Cold War Crisis). Both versions include access to the Arma 3 Beta plus a digital copy of the complete game upon release. The price of each edition will increase once the Arma 3 Beta and final game become available.
Emphasis mine.

I will get one of the preorder versions. Any other takers?
Oh ya, when it's available for pre-purchase I'll be ordering the entire kitchen sink.

I've gotten more hours out of the ArmA Series, it's expansions, missions and addons than probably all my other games combined.

I will probably buy the standard Alpha edition - for 25 bucks I'm happy to try it. The Deluxe one doesn't really offer anything I want, and the Supporter edition is too expensive for my tastes (as I didn't really play ARMA2 much).

I've spent so much time in Arma2 and have had so much fun in MP with it that even the supporter edition seems cheap to me ;)
I'm considering either the standard edition or the supporter edition, as I agree that the deluxe edition offers nothing that interests me that much.
This will also be their first Arma with a new engine and this could be the version they mess up pretty hard, but they have a good track record of patching things and improving their games over time so I'm not too worried.
Arma3 looks very promising though and I'm looking forward to the alpha!

RPS: Can you talk a bit about the content in the alpha – why did you choose to show these elements? What are you most proud of?

Joris: I really enjoy the infantry showcase, because it is a benchmark for our design vision. The scenario is quite simple, but every play-through has little differences. Sometimes I get suppressed by an auto-rifleman, see tracers fly right over my head and hear the bullets pop. You genuinely do not want to get hit, because you know the consequences are brutal. Another time you’ll have outsmarted the same patrol using a well-placed under-barrel grenade, and the survivors are forced into completely different tactics. Ignore them, and they may come back to flank you ten minutes later. The point is: when we deliver a good enough sandbox for our infantry supported by vehicles, the scenarios themselves should not have to rely on heavy scripting.

Then I start up the helicopter showcase, and you really get to see how broad the experience can be. The environment is huge, even if it’s tiny compared to the full game’s Altis. That’s something important to stress: do not be worried about the Alpha launch content being fairly limited. The content will not only grow during the Alpha and Beta programs, but the full game is significantly buffed. Factor in community content, and you once again have an endless pool of fun.

When you start toying around in the editor, you’re able to further explore the new features. Come up with new types of scenarios using SCUBA diving, get creative with anti-personnel mines or simply drop in two opposing squads of infantry someplace new on the island. A combat engagement can play out differently each time, but is now enhanced by a much-refined radio protocol and better responsiveness of the character movement.

That's not entirely true, ArmA was on a different version of the Real Virtuality Engine than Operation Flashpoint which kicked off the series under Publisher Codemasters.

Then of course the Engine made yet another leap with Real Virtuality 3 for ArmA2, Expansions, TakeOn and of course DayZ:

It is the first time that we'll see Ragdoll and realistic Physics incorporated into the engine which I can't wait to see.

Oh, I thought they were having an all new engine this time around and was not going to use Real Virtuality Engine (RVE) for Arma3.
I can't find the article I read about it but it's very likely I misread it on that point. In that case I'm not too worried about the new version of RVE....yay! :icon_cheesygrin:

We ever going to see you again, Duke?
LOL

Looking at their price points, I don't see any difference between buying the 24.99 Alpha version or the 39.99 digital deluxe, as far as I can tell they're the same exact fucking thing and give you the same exact stuff. Alpha option even shows you get the full game when its' released.

What the fuck is the point of the digital deluxe version??

I really don't know the point of the Digital Deluxe Version to be honest because there doesn't seem to be much in it to entice people to buy it?

For me it makes no difference as I'm going with the Supporter Edition anyway.

Only reason I ask is because if I do talk Pepsibitch into letting me buy it, I'll have to go with the cheapest option.
