27" Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q and 27" Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q review/feedback.

Seriously. Picked up a job last week that went longer than we figured so with a little money burning in my pocket decided to snag a new monitor. The big pc CPU & GPU upgrade can wait until Broadwell-E and NVidia's Pascal are released later in 2016... so I'll get one of these new kickass monitors for my tired old eyes.

With a little buyers remorse I hooked it up a couple days ago and jumped into a game of Battlefield 4. Something looked wrong, a little washed out and realized I needed to change the ingame video settings. Ahhh, there it is. 2560X1440, 144 Hz and G-Sync on.

Holy Fuck.

The game is so clear. It's like a veil has been lifted or as many of us will remember from the late 1990's going from VHS to DVD. I see everything - sharp as fuck. Aiming is easier. The little battles I used to lose I'm now Charlie Sheening by winning. Absolutely no comparison to the Benq with lightboost enabled. None. This has brought back gaming for me, especially FPS as I haven't been playing much the last year. My game has already improved drastically and I'm still quite rusty from lack of playing for months. n00bs beware - I got all winter being unemployed so you better run.

Highly recommended guys.

Woooo pricey. I want a 144 hz monitor so bad, but it's really hard to justify spending the money on it, especially when I have two perfectly working monitors at the moment.

Long may it last, it sounds like a monitor to end all monitors with no compromises.

Hey, that looks pretty nice. I could use a new monitor, maybe I'll look into getting one of those...

Whelp, I guess my old monitor isn't so bad after all.

Daunt & TM are right, they're quite pricey. I think the goodness comes mostly from the higher resolution and 144 Hz refresh, G-Sync is probably not quite as important (and that's where the price premium comes from) however it's a great touch. When frames go down and your pc wants to kinda chug along you notice no slowness or stutter or anything... it really helps to keep things clear and moving along.

All I know is that the difference is striking and I'll enjoy my advantage before prices fall and everybody and god's dog has one. :)

Here's a great article I posted a couple years ago on G-Sync in case anybody needs a refresher.

You said exactly the same thing about the BenQ when you picked it up Smack so I'll wait a few weeks for your second review.

I remember you tearing it up for about a week or so and then reverting back to a bullet sponge shortly thereafter.

I'm sure it's nice but you're still a n00b and there's no monitor on the planet that can change that fact

...also, do they have a 24" version because 27" is just too much real estate for me to see clearly.

Looks good Kitty. I'm curious about G-Sync, I'm going to see if I can find one to have a look at in store next year. I have a 27" 1080p panel and it's not enough really. I'll likely upgrade to this when the price comes down as looking at the reviews and awards it's getting it looks well worth it. First big buy next year is the Rift when it releases then this will be next probably. Congrats it really does look awesome. :icon_cool:

Trust me it won't make one bit of difference.

Hopefully you're there though Kitty, it will be awesome!

Asus has a newer model that just came out, the ROG Swift PG279Q, that is an IPS panel instead of the TN that I have. It's superior due to the advantages of IPS (mostly off axis viewing) but since I never sit off axis on this main gaming pc I didn't need to spend the extra $250.00.

Duke, I don't believe Asus has a 24" with G-Sync, although I'm sure some other manufacturers make one.

This is a good site to bookmark because it deals with high resolution/refresh rate monitors although not updated too frequently.

I'm still a bullet sponge indeed and I'm hoping I can keep up the pwnage for months, even years, to come.

I've got a 50 inch flat screen on my desk as a monitor.

Haha.
Don't stare at it too long tho, before you know it you have your wallpaper burned in the back of your skull.

That newer one is £749 over here Kit. I'd expect keys and a logbook for that :icon_eek:

Yeah, seems as you approach 4k resolution the Hz drops to 60 - 75. Must be some sort of hardware trade off or something...

Perhaps in time.

4k is over 8 megapixels. That's a lot for any video card to push.

Motherfucker. I've been drooling over one of those since they were initially announced. I'm still running a first gen 120hz asus monitor... Got a 4k but it is awful for gaming on.

Why is it awful for gaming? And too true tm but it's the future... and it's nearly here.
